John di Domenico is an artist and architect working in New York City and Rome.
For more than three decades he has practiced architecture while painting. His works, referred to as Frames in Time by Robert Morgan, are a visual narrative of the design process and often draw on the formal design ideas, client contact and process of his studio practice.
“I am an artist and an architect interested in the relationship between making space visually and spatially. I paint to explore ideas related to “making” as a tectonic, social and political act. The works are in an ambiguous zone between representation and abstraction using line, form and color to tell a story.”
di Domenico received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The City College and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Rome, La Sapienza and the recipient of private and public grants, including an NEA Design Arts grant to study the Re-Use of Urban Infrastructure.
di Domenico is on the faculty of the School of Architecture + Design at the New York Institute of Technology. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Coney Island USA, the non-profit arts group whose goal is to “defend the honor of American pop culture” and organize the annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island.
